She was born on October 27, 1924 in Decatur County, TN to the late Fielder Coleman and Onie Brasher Volner. She attended school in Carroll and Madison County and was a graduate of Draughn’s Business College. She was an active member of North Jackson Baptist Church since 1950. She served as secretary/treasurer of her Sunday School class for many years. She was also an active member of the VFW ladies Auxiliary where she served as a chaplain.
After the death of her first husband, William Jack Smith, she went to work as a part time bookkeeper for The Singer Company where she worked for 61 years becoming the first female Singer Sewing Machine Company store manager and then owner. She loved to work selling Singer Sewing Machines and spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Williams Jack Smith, and second husband, Alfred M. Creswell; her parents, and ten siblings.
She is survived by her son, Billy L. Smith (Emily); two grandchildren, Abby Koch (Brent) and Anna Brignole (Nick); four grandchildren, three stepchildren, six step grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and loved ones from 10-11 a.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.
The funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 20, 2019 with interment following in Hollywood Cemetery.
The family would like to express special thanks to her faithful caregivers and friends who supported her during her illness.
