Robert F. Henderson, Sr., age 84, passed away on Sunday, August 7, 2016. He was born on June 9, 1932 to Floyd and Ruth Harrison Henderson in Jackson, TN and was a life-long resident. He was an active member of Northside United Methodist Church.
He was president of Miller Lumber Company, Incorporated, in Jackson and served on the Board of Directors of this company in Jackson and Selma, Alabama.
Henderson was married for 64 years to the former Janelle Luckman, who preceded him in death. He is survived by three sons, Bob Henderson (wife, Rene) of Gastonia, NC, Sidney Henderson (wife, Lisa) of Jackson, TN and Dr. Jeffrey Henderson (wife, Scottie) of Athens, GA; six grandchildren: Casey Henderson of Mt. Holly, NC, Blaire Henderson Morel (husband, Dr. Ben Morel) of Belmont, NC, Bailey Henderson Upchurch (husband, Jon) of Belmont, NC, Sam Henderson and Robert Henderson of Jackson, TN, Dr. Miller Henderson of Florence, OR; two great-grandchildren: Eason Posey of Mt. Holly, NC and Hattie Upchurch of Belmont, NC.
He was raised in Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 45 on July 24, 1956 and served as Worshipful Master in 1983. He also served as Grand Master for the State of Tennessee in 1993. He was a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies in Memphis. He was honored with the rank and decoration of Knight Commander, Court of Honour in 1975 and in 1981 was coroneted a Thirty-Third Degree Mason. He was Past Master of Memphis Consistory and Past President of the Jackson Scottish Rite Club. He was a member of Al Chymia Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S., in Memphis. He has been Imperial Representative for the Shrine for fifteen years, and served for many years as the only non-attorney on the national appeals committee. He was also past president of Jackson Shrine Club and Motor Corps. Further, he served 12 years on the Board of Directors for the Shrine Hospital, St. Louis Unit and was Director Emeritus for the Shrine hospital there.
Henderson was also Past Sovereign of St. Stephen’s Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine, a member of the Royal Order of Scotland, the York Rite Sovereign College. He was the first State Senior Councilor, Order of DeMolay and, he is the holder of the DeMolay Legion of Honor and Cross of Honor. He was DeMolay Dad Advisor for sixteen years.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, August 11, 2016 from 1-2:30 p.m. at Northside United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Northside United Methodist Church with Rev. Don Thrasher officiating. Interment will follow with Masonic Rites provided by Jackson Masonic Lodge No. 45 in Ridgecrest Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel.
