

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home with Dr. Phil Jett and Bro. Fred Morris officiating. Interment will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers to serve will be Winferd Allen, Jack Murphree, Ray Whitwell, David Nelson, Gary Williams, and Jerry Norwood. Honorary pallbearers to serve will be Blair, Blake, and Wells Arnett.
Mr. Hickman was born on August 24, 1917 in Carroll County, TN to the late John W. and Ornie Elizabeth Hickman. He graduated from Huntingdon High School and attended Bethel College.
He served in the United States Navy during WWII at Pearl Harbor for three and a half years.
He has been a member of Englewood Baptist Church since 1962. He was Manager of the Federal Land Bank in Huntingdon and Jackson for 33 years, serving 15 counties in West Tennessee.
He was President of Fourth Farm Credit District of FLBA, serving four states. He served in many other positions on the state level.
He was Realtor for 40 years, served as President of Jackson Board for four years and was the founder and owner of R.H. Hickman Realty and Auction Company for 25 years.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sisters, Leva Owenby and Mary Parrish; two brothers, John L. Hickman and Hartle H. Hickman; and his step mother, Donie Hickman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Janie N. Hickman; daughters, Sandra Arnett (Albert) and Betty Hickman Pritchard; Stepchildren, Chuck Carothers, Chris Carothers (Pam), and Celia Jordan (Frank); grandchildren, Blair, Blake, and Wells Arnett, Lisa Carter Payne and Jenny Carter Johnston; Step Granchildren, Tyler and Colin Carothers, Rachel and Shelby Jordan, and Patton and Lily Corothers; great grandchildren, Chelsea Arnett, Peyton, Cooper and Reese Arnett, Rayna Carter, John Carter Johnson, Jordan Johns, and Brooks Johnston; a sister, Barbara Bennett (Richard); sister-in-law, Martha Hickman; and special friends, Dr. Harry Smith, George White, Gerald Stavely, and Donnie Wall.
The family wishes to express their profound gratitude to the nurses and staff at the Tennessee State Veterans Home for the love and care shown to Pete and his family.
Visitation with the family will be held on Thursday, January 2, 2014 in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m.
