Phyllis was born on November 13, 1934 in Chattanooga, TN the only child of the late Claude and Ruth Meacham. She was raised by her Maternal Grandmother, Vola Long Seaborn. Phyllis attended the Atlanta City Schools, graduating from William A. Bass High School in the class of 1952. She went on to earn her nursing degree from Emory University and she served many years as a nurse at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis where she cared for many young ones and their families. One of her patients at St. Jude was a young boy by the name of Robert Lavender whose silhouette is the St Jude logo today.
Phyllis retired to Henderson, TN where she made her home. She was a member of the Henderson Church of Christ where she attended Ladies’ classes and other programs. She was always someone quick to jump in and help others in need, be it sitting with someone or making sure someone had a good meal.
She was a voracious reader and Phyllis read her Bible everyday without fail. She was also a big fan of the Freed Hardeman Lions men’s and women’s basketball teams, and loved assisting the Freed Hardeman Associates in their annual rummage sales.
In addition to her parents, Phyllis was preceded in death by her son, Mark Culver.
She is survived by her adopted son and devoted caregiver, Shane Robinson; her son, Chris Culver (Kathy); her grandchildren, Austin Culver and Amelia Santucci; and a cousin, Shirley Carpenter.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Friday, December 30, 2022 from 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons, 1544 South Highland, Jackson. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 pm, officiated by Ben Flatt.
