Peggy was born in Aberdeen, Mississippi, but she established her life in the Bemis, Tennessee community alongside her childhood sweetheart and husband of 63 years, Leland Josh Herriman. Peggy was a member of First Baptist Church of Bemis her entire life, where she personally knew every member of the church and would help anyone at any time.
Peggy led a busy life with two separate career choices. She started off as a beautician, which influenced her lifestyle of keeping her hair and makeup pristine. Peggy was never seen with a hair out of place. She made a career change and became a histologist at Jackson General Hospital. Peggy took great pride and joy in both careers, but she was finally persuaded by her husband to retire to take care of the family and home. A short time into retirement, she returned back to the hospital after being asked by her boss.
Once her first grandchild was born, she retired for good to take on the special role of Mawmaw. In retirement, Peggy found pride and relaxation in gardening in her greenhouse where she raised and gifted orchids.
Peggy was preceded in death by her parents - Margret and Hershall Wilson.
Peggy is survived by her husband - Leland Josh Herriman, and five siblings - Gene Wilson, Jimmy Wilson, Johnny Wilson, Kathy Seat and Anne Wilson. She leaves behind her two children - Kim Edwards and Gina Brown, five grandchildren - Kyle Edwards, Garrett Edwards, Isabella Edwards, Amanda Martin and Janna Brown, and three great-grandchildren - Annsley Martin, Anna Brown and Nolan Brown.
The family would like to express our appreciation for all the wonderful cards and prayers. If desired, friends may make a memorial contribution to First Baptist Church of Bemis at 116 Bemis Lane, Jackson, TN 38301.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.GASmithandSonsFuneralHome.com for the Herriman family.
