Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson will be held on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 10 a.m. in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Dan Bruce officiating. Entombment will follow in the mausoleum at Highland Memorial Gardens.
Born May 18, 1923 in Michie, TN, Oneida was the only daughter of the late Sam and Dora Hudgins Mills. She was preceded in death by her only brother, Samuel Eber Mills.
Oneida was married to R.C. Johnson on December 7, 1945. To this union was born two sons, Richard Carman and William Carlyle Johnson.
Oneida was sports minded having played basketball while in school and then being married to a coach for 55 years. She was a teacher for thirty-seven years, having taught every grade in school from the first grade through the first two years of college. Oneida was a coach herself for 18 years, having coached at Dyersburg State Community College for 12 years. She was a past worthy matron of the Eastern Star and an active member of First Baptist Church Jackson.
Mrs. Johnson is preceded in death by her parents and brother; and her husband, R.C. Johnson, who preceded her in 2001.
She is survived by her two sons, Richard Carman and William Carlyle Johnson; and three grandchildren, Richard Thomas, Natalie Marie, and Chelsea Jean Johnson.
Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday evening, December 21, 2014 from 4-6 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home.
