He was born on August 5th,1928 in the Leatherwood Creek area of Jones Valley in Hickman County, TN to the late George Graves and Fannie Mai Albright Boehms. He moved to Obion County, TN at an early age. Upon high school graduation, Olin enrolled in the United States Navy where he served as a radio control operator on the USS Mount Olympus with Admiral Richard E. Byrd in the 1946 Operation Highjump expedition to Antarctica. He received the World War II Victory Medal, the Antarctica Service Medal, and an honorable discharge.
Olin met his wife, Carol, in Chattanooga, TN where they were united in marriage. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on July 18th.
Olin received a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Tennessee Technological University in 1951 then became a Registered Professional Engineer in 1959. He was an electrical engineer with the Tennessee Valley Authority in the Power System Operations at Knoxville, Martin, Chattanooga, Paducah, Nashville, and Jackson for 37 years. He retired from TVA in 1988 in Jackson.
Olin was nurtured in the faith and later became a Christian at New Chapel Methodist Church in Elbridge, TN. The church is now located at The Discovery Park of America in Union City, TN. He was an active member of Forest Heights United Methodist Church for 44 years. In 2003 Olin became a member of Northside Church and the Pacer Sunday School class. He faithfully served both churches in many ways by offering his skills and by serving on various committees.
Olin will be remembered as humble, kind, and generous, with a quiet and gentle demeanor. He always had a smile to share with others, even strangers; and the ability to easily make friends by treating everyone the same. His hobbies included woodworking, yard work, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was an avid reader, enjoying the simple things in life such as swinging and talking on the back porch, coffee with his wife and a slice of her homemade apple pie or pound cake.
Olin strived to live his daily life according to the fruits of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.
Olin is survived by his beloved wife, Carol Simpson Boehms; a son Alan Boehms (Kay) of Casper, Wyoming; two daughters, Anita Boehms Langdon of Jackson, and Julie Boehms Morris (Tim) of Memphis, TN. He enjoyed his five grandchildren, Chrissy Boehms Bennion (Beau) of Parker, Colorado; Karen Langdon Cook (Matt) of Ypsilanti, Michigan; and Gregg, Cayce, and Allie Morris of Memphis. He was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Chase and Lily Bennion of Parker, CO. Also surviving is his brother M.G. Boehms (Judy) of San Antonio, Texas, along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Olin was preceded in death by two brothers, Kenneth and Vernon Boehms of Obion County, and a son-in-law, Dr. Scott Langdon of Jackson.
Special thanks is extended to Olin’s caregiver, Pam Stone, for her loving and compassionate care.
