Norma Futrell went home to be with her Heavenly Father on September 24, 2015. Norma was the beloved wife of William (Billy) H. Futrell for 61 years. They have three children: Ricky (Donna) Futrell, Teresa (Bill) Rosson, and Chuck (Christy) Futrell. They have six grandchildren: Chrissy Futrell Vandiver, Abby Futrell, Lynsie Rosson Hughes, Amber Futrell, Will Futrell and Hannah Futrell. They also were blessed with three great-grandchildren, Gage and Travis Vandiver and Hazel Hughes.
Norma was born September 11, 1936, the daughter of Ellis and Travis Maness, both deceased. She had one sister, Becky Haynie, who preceded her in death. Norma lived in the Jackson community and was a member of West Jackson Baptist Church all her life. She was active in the WMU, taught Sunday School over 50 years, sang in the sanctuary choir, served on many church committees, was the church Wedding Coordinator for many years and worked in the church office as Receptionist until her retirement in 2013. Norma loved three things most in her life—God, Family and Friends. She was well known for hosting many parties, bridal teas, and church functions in her home. She was a fabulous cook that loved trying new recipes and sharing recipes with friends. The holidays were her favorite time of year when she celebrated with large groups of family and friends gathered around her table. Norma was a compassionate woman that often took food to someone who was sick or helped a friend in need. In the community she was a member of Altrusa Club of Jackson. She will be missed by her family as a loving wife and Godly mother that was a role model for her children and by her friends who will remember her gracious southern hospitality. But what a comfort to know that she knew exactly where she was going upon her death – to Heaven to live with her Lord that she had loved and served all her life.
A celebration of Norma’s life will take place at West Jackson Baptist Church on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 2 pm with burial immediately following the service at Ridgecrest Cemetery. Officiating the service will be Reverend Lonnie Sanders and Reverend Ron Hale. Music will be presented by Ricky Clark and Doug Polk. Visitation was held on Friday, September 25, 2015 at West Jackson Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Carroll Griffin, Butch Hawks, Paul Deschenes, Charles Emrich, Bill Liles, Harvey Curlin, Charles Aldrich and Robert Valentine. Family and friends are invited to attend.
