Mary Elizabeth Burcham Hicks

She was born on August 30, 1942 in the Huntersville Community of Madison County to the late Harvey Henry Burcham and Ruby Betty Tubbs Burcham. She was a graduate of North Side High School in the Class of 1961. She married her beloved husband, James Wallace Hicks, on May 13, 1961 and they were married for 33 years until his death in 1995. She worked her whole career with the Jackson-Madison County School System as a Pre-K Assistant until her retirement in 2017. She also attended church at East Trinity United Methodist Church. She will be deeply missed by her two sons who adored their mother.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Wallace Hicks; and her brother, Charles Burcham.

She is survived by her two sons, Tony Hicks (Holley) and Tim Hicks and her sister, Wanda Joyce Shytles (Jimmie).

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 25, 2024 from 5-8 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 1 p.m. at the South Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons with burial following in the Ararat Cemetery.
