I remember sharing Home Rooms with Marilyn many years, basically because of our shared last name first initial. She was always bright and cheerful, and scholasticly ready with a helpful answer. She always had something nice to say!

 Marilyn was my first girlfriend in the 6th grade at Whitehall School in Jackson, Tenn. Our boyfriend-girlfriend relationship consisted of sitting on the swings in the playground and talking. On one occasion, we went to a birthday party, and she was the first girl I gave a box of candy to on Valentine's Day. Even though it has been 70 years since we were in grammar school together, I still remember Marilyn's smile.

Marilyn was a classmate of mine at JHS, and I  remember her as a sweet, smart, and fun-to-be-around gal who always had a smile......I am sure she will be missed by her family and friends....

Marilyn was a Charter Member of the Beta Eta Chapter of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society of Key Women Educators in 1971 in Jackson, TN.

I met Marilyn in 2002 when I joined this organization and immediately was drawn to her. She was beautiful inside and out, exuding love and friendship. I know she was a terrific teacher because she was  such a good friend and mentor to young teachers like me. She immediately made me feel welcome, and I became active in many of the leadership opportunities our chapter and the state organization provided. 

Because of mentors like Marilyn, I loved my students and my job. I am sorry that we lost contact for several years.

I heard my name called while at the Jackson Clinic and turned around  to see a smiling Marilyn, sitting in a wheelchair, and getting ready to leave. As I walked with her to her transportation, we caught up a little and I wrote down her address so that I could keep in contact. She was the same loving person I remembered, and I enjoyed sending her cards. 

To her family, I want you to know how much she meant to me and to our teacher organization. I can't imagine how many students' lives she influenced over her years of service, but I know they feel the same emptiness I feel now that she is gone. She was and is now a special angel.

Marilyn was such a sweet person with a wonderful smile.  I treasure memories from Sunday School and United Methodist Women at Aldersgate.  Rest in peace dear friend.

Marilyn inspired her cherished students and many colleagues during her years at Farragut Intermediate School. She had a positive presence which motivated those fortunate to be around her.  She would seek out additional materials for a student who might be struggling in an area or a student who had mastered material and needed more of a challenge.  What a dedicated teacher and jovial lady who made this world a better place.  Most honored to have worked with her. She was blessed to have Cathy and Dennis Rush who adored her and made many trips to assist her.

Mrs. Haynes was my fourth grade teacher at Farragut. I will always remember her for being so kind and passionate about teaching. She had a wonderful energy and brought so much joy with her to her classroom. I hope that my own children are fortunate enough to have teachers as amazing as Mrs. Haynes.
