She was born on March 12, 1932 in Bemis to the late Virgil Lawrence and Geraldine Sansom Taylor. She graduated from Jackson High School in 1950, after which she attended Lambuth College. She married Norwood Elton Jones on August 17, 1951. After living in Memphis for several years, they moved to Jackson and made it their permanent home. They were co-owners of Brooks Shaw and Son Old Country Store until they retired in 2013.
She loved the Lord and served Him, while being a faithful long time member of Forest Heights United Methodist Church. She loved being a part of the Ladies Circle and the Ladies Bible Class For many years, she was an active member of the Altrusa Club.
She and Norwood enjoyed traveling together to nearby and far away places often with family members or friends. Her favorite destination was the San Destin Hilton in Florida where she and Norwood were Snow-Birders for 20 years.
One of her favorite hobbies was playing cards and board games with family and friends. She delighted in her grandchildren. Every summer she and Norwood were camp directors for "Camp Joywood" - their personal camp for their grandchildren, which included the early morning bugle call and fun camp activities.
She will be so missed for her kindness, her generosity, her sense of humor, her love of family, her love for cooking, her hospitality, and her wonderful influence on everyone who knew her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Norwood Jones.
She is survived by her two children and spouses, Randy and Vivian Jones, Ron and Leigh Ann Taylor, 4 grandsons and I granddaughter, Douglas Jones, Russell and Carrie Jones, Corbin and Hannah Taylor, Will Taylor, and Jenni Belle Taylor, and three great grandsons, Logan, Caleb, and Easton Jones. She is also survived by her brother and sister- in - law and their children and grandchildren, Lawrence and Norma Taylor, Mark and Jill Taylor, Jude and Eliza, and many devoted nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and loved ones on Thursday, October 13, 2022 from 12-1 p.m. at Forest Heights United Methodist Church. Funeral services will follow at 1 p.m. with Rev. Drew Brewer officiating. Burial will follow in Browns Church Cemetery.
The pallbearers include Mark Taylor, Corbin Taylor, Douglas Jones, Russell Jones, Will Taylor, and Jude Taylor. The honorary pallbearers are her devoted caregivers Mildred Greer, Pearl Johnson, Lottie Sorrell, Raquel Strayhorn, and Vennie Williamson.
