Johnny was born on July 1, 1944 in Knoxville, TN the son of the late Luther James and Willie Dee Morse Mullens. He graduated from Jackson High School in 1962, and attended Lambuth University for two years. He then went to Memphis State University and graduated in 1966. He then went to work for Arnold, Spain, and Badgett, CPAs and later Tom Badgett, CPA. He then opened his own business, Johnny Mullens, CPA.
Johnny was a member of Northside United Methodist Church and the Shriner’s. Over the years, he was a member of Jackson Jaycees, Moose Lodge, Elk’s Lodge and Jackson Bass Club. He loved to travel with his wife and special friends, Bill & Denita Rowe. Johnny had a love for music and was in the garage band, The Cavaliers. Johnny was a member of Kappa Alpha Order both at Lambuth and Memphis State. He was an avid lover of sports who supported his children, grandchildren, and many other youth.
Johnny will be remembered for his big smile and always having a cigar.
In addition to his parents, Johnny was preceded in death by a sister, Montez McBride; and an infant brother, Billy James Mullens.
He is survived by his loving wife, Dolores Ann Newton Mullens; daughter, Lesa Glassman (Craig); son, Johnny Mullens, Jr.; daughter, Stephanie Webb (Chris); sister, Marsha Gowan (Bruce); Grandchildren, Adam Glassman, Sara Glassman, Kaylah Webb, Luke Mullens, and Trice Mullens.
The family will receive friends on Monday evening, January 4, 2016 from 5-7 p.m. at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel. A graveside service will be held at Hollywood Cemetery on Tuesday morning, January 5, 2016 at 11 a.m.
The family has requested that memorial contributions be directed to the American Cancer Society, Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
