Johnny Edward Byrd was Assistant Superintendent for the Health & Sanitation Department at the City of Jackson who died unexpectedly from cancer on September 10, 2015, at the age of 58. He was a resident of Jackson, TN. Johnny was born in Covington, TN on August 30, 1957 to William and Evelyn Byrd.
Johnny is survived by his wife, Dina Mae (Duff) Byrd, his children, Currie Lee Byrd of Ripley, TN, and Joselina Constance Nancy Roberts Byrd of Jackson, TN; Johnny E. Byrd, Jr., and Christina Cook both of Covington, TN, and Tracey Byrd and Foster Byrd both of Jackson, TN. He is survived by seven grandchildren, Tyler Jacob “Chipper” Byrd, Cooper Dylan Byrd, Adisyn Denise Byrd, Audrianna Grace Boswell, Jaxon Nikolas Boswell, Ryley Blaze Spray and Kenzie Mae Byrd. He was predeceased by his parents William and Evelyn Byrd, and his sister Cathy Jean McBroom, all of Covington, TN. He is survived by his two sisters Tina Marie Smith and Dennie “Sam” Darlene Akin, and his brother Owen Byrd, all of Covington, TN.
Johnny was an avid hunter and loved running his beagles in field trials in earlier years. He was a volunteer fire fighter with the Madison County Fire Department for over 20 years. He loved amateur wrestling. He loved his family and his work with the City of Jackson, and would go to any lengths to help someone in need. He will be dearly missed by the many people that he influenced in his life. He brightened the room when he came in and he will be dearly missed.
Pall bearers will be Ricky Finch, Doug Gilbert, David Guy Smith, Bobby Gregson, Matt Littrell, Scott Littrell, Craig Dunavan and Robert Overton.
Honorary pall bearers are Lavonne Stone, Tom Winbush, William Stone, Jerry Wallace, Sidney Bair, Harvey Buchanan, Bud Akin, David Earl Smith, John Duff, Jesse Duff, Michael Eric Stovall Jr., and Eric Vallon.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2015 from 4pm-7pm. Funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 pm on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at George A. Smith & Sons, 2812 North Highland Avenue, Jackson, TN 38305. Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Gardens.
