John was born in Mahan, WV to Orville and Elma Henderson. John attended East Bank High School in East Bank, West Virginia and went on to become a 20-year veteran in the US Air Force. The military brought John and his family to Colorado Springs, CO and this is where the family settled down.
John, alongside his wife, became a prominent business owner of Valley Auto Service Center and John’s Widefield Chevron. For 40 years, he served his community and was proud to support his fellow service members.
At the age of 52, John achieved a dream of going to school and learning to fly an airplane. This led him into being a member of the Civil Air Patrol Emergency Service Mission.
After retirement, John and his wife became vendors. They traveled the United States in their RV, participating in craft shows and festivals. He loved meeting new people and making friends.
John loved remodeling his home, fishing, hunting, camping, flying his plane and taking trips to see family or friends. John loved to talk, tell jokes and make people laugh.
John was a longtime member of Hilltop Baptist Church and recently became a member of Fountain Independent Baptist Church.
John was a loving Husband, Dad, Pop, Grandpa, Gramps, PaPa, and to many they called him friend.
John is survived by his loving wife, Mable Henderson (Clark). His Children: John R. Henderson, JR and wife Ruby, Terry Henderson, Tina Alexander and Nathan Duff: His 11 Grandchildren: John R. Henderson III, Valgerdur Rodriquez, Jonina Henderson-Witham, Halldora Hart, Nathan Henderson, Kristamy Henderson, Brigham Henderson, Gavlin Henderson, Brantley Alexander, Tiaunna Alexander, and Chantal Alexander. His 17 Great Grand Children: Brittany Schneider, Kennan Rodriquez, Brennan Rodriquez, Demetris Rodriquez, Asta Withem, Lane Webb, Lawrence Webb, Liam LaVallie, Drystin Henderson, Bryce Henderson, Makenzie Haughton, Blake Haughton, Jake Haughton, Trinity Henderson, Elliott Henderson, Kane Henderson, and Aubree Henderson. His 2 Great Great Grandchildren: Oktaviah Webb and Ronnie Schneider.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday May 21, 2022 at 10:00 am at Hilltop Baptist Church, 6915 Palmer Park Blvd. Colorado Springs, CO 80915.
