Jimmy was born on January 6, 1956, in Jackson, he was known for his love of sports, his charismatic presence, and his ability to connect with people through his voice.
Jimmy was a beloved figure in the Jackson community, having worked in warehousing for many years. However, he was most widely known for his long career as a sports talk radio host. Over the years, he lent his voice to various radio stations in Jackson, where he entertained, informed, and engaged listeners with his sharp insights and infectious enthusiasm for sports. His impact on local radio made him a cherished personality among fans, many of whom tuned in regularly to hear his perspectives on everything from high school sports to professional leagues.
A dedicated father and grandfather, Jimmy was proud of his children and grandchild, and they brought him great joy. He is survived by his children, Shawn Butler (Lacey) and Hannah Blackmon (Bart); his granddaughter, Winney Butler; and his siblings, Susan Butler, Patricia Ellis, and Kenny Butler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Marie Coffman Butler.
Jimmy’s legacy will be remembered for his warmth, his sense of humor, and his passion for life. His impact on the Jackson community and the sports world, both locally and beyond, will never be forgotten.
A memorial visitation to celebrate the life of Jimmy Butler will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2024 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. A private family service will follow the visitation.
