He professed his love for Christ at an early age and joined the historic Johnson Grove Missionary Baptist Church, then located on Wellwood Road.
Young Jessie grew up on a farm with his parents who were sharecroppers and his three brothers and one sister. Farming is an occupation that Jessie loved dearly and he always dreamed of owning and farming his own land, a dream that would eventually come true. He attended elementary school at Lower Ingram School and then graduated from West High School. He would often tell stories about his school days, fondly recalling the teachings of the late Mrs. Selma Cole and Ms. Pearl Ingram, who were the educators during his youth and members of the church.
As a young man, on September 25, 1961, he was joined in holy matrimony to the love of his life, Mable Ruth Bond of Haywood, Tennessee. Although his first career interest was farming, he decided to enter into the profession of commercial driving with his brother William and became a long haul truck driver, driving coast-to-coast and even internationally, an occupation he had for over 50 years. Jessie, “Nank”, was a hard-working family man with an entrepreneurial spirit and courageous heart. He believed in working hard to obtain the things that he desired for his family. Nank loved to laugh and tell funny stories. His voice was loud like a clap of thunder and could fill the entire room.
On June 8, 2019, the sun set and carried our dearly beloved home to be with our Heavenly Father.
He leaves to cherish his precious memory, his devoted wife of 57 years, Mable Ruth Ingram; two daughters Crystal L. Ingram (“Baby”) of Atlanta, Georgia, Karen M.
