James Harold Rogers went to be with the Lord November 16, 2012. Born in Corinth, MS, James was the eldest son of Whit and Dorothy Rogers. After serving in the navy, he began his career in the billboard business, remaining with the same company for 43 years. He retired in 2004 as the Account Executive for Outdoor Communications, Inc. and Lamar Advertising in Columbus, MS.
James made his profession of faith at the age of 40 and became an active member of Fairview Baptist Church in Columbus, MS. He was a member of Archie Moore’s Sunday School class and loved his many friends there. After moving to Jackson, TN, he became an active member of West Jackson Baptist Church and Bill Taylor/Curtis Scott’s Sunday School class.
James’ family was his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Shirley Wilburn. He is loved and will be greatly missed by his wife, Peggy; two daughters, Cindy (Jerry) Goldman of Birmingham, AL, Eve (David) Silverstein of Paducah, KY; and his son, Paul (Amy) Perkins of Knoxville. He also leaves his six precious grandchildren who so lovingly called him Granddad: Allyson Goldman, Grace, Aaron, and Lily Silverstein, and Andrew and Alex Perkins. He also leaves his English bulldog and best friend, Archie. He is also survived by his brother, Kenneth (Freda) Rogers; sisters, Sue Purvis and Marie Smith; sisters-in-law, Jo (John) Taylor, Paula (Buddy) Jernigan, Linda (Danny) McFall; and brothers-in-law, Henry (Regina) Burch, John (Harriet) Burch, Billy (Barbara) Wilburn, and Carroll (Glenda)Wilburn, and several loved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted in the North Chapel George A. Smith Funeral Home on Monday, November 19, 2012 at 11:00 am with burial immediately following at Walnut Grove Cemetery, Trenton, TN.
A Visitation with the family will be held on Sunday, November 18, 2012 in the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm , and one hour prior to the funeral.
Pallbearers will be his nephews Scott Taylor, Trey Goldsby, Joey Davidson, Anson Burch, Remington Burch, Eric Goetz and brothers-in-law, Danny McFall and Billy Wilburn.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of Curtis Scott’s Sunday School class and Archie Moore’s Sunday School class.George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel
