He was born on February 10, 1933, in Prentiss County, Mississippi, to the late Elijah and Edna Wingo. Cecil enjoyed a long and successful career as a store manager, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and customers alike. His dedication and work ethic were evident throughout his career. In his later years he enjoyed photography and gardening. Cecil and his late wife, Wanza, were active members of First Baptist Church Jackson, where they found a loving and supportive community.
He is survived by his daughter, Cheryl Dozier; his grandsons, James and John Chatham; and his nieces and nephews, Lisa Deberadinas, Kim Stead, Vincent Wingo, Eric Wingo, and Lynn Koerber. Cecil is also survived by his brothers-in-law, Karey Burcham and Huie Burcham (Lila).
Cecil was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Wanza Wingo, and his siblings, Joy Cooper and Otha Wingo.
Cecil's life was marked by his commitment to his family, his faith, and his work. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
A period of visitation to honor the life of Cecil Wingo will be held on Monday, August 12, 2024 from 1-3 p.m. at The North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons. A private interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Memphis.
