Walter was born on September 28, 1924 in Macon, GA to the late Jewell Walter Finley, Sr. and Mary Ella Cheatham Finley. A member of the greatest generation, Walter served his country in the United States Army during WWII. He married Mary Louise Sanford on June 6, 1947 and they celebrated 72 years of matrimony until her death in 2020.
Walter and Louise owned and operated Finley’s Pharmacy for over 40 years. He was also a founder and board member of Jackson Christian School, helped establish the Mid-South Youth Camp, and was an elder at Campbell Street Church of Christ for 42 years.
Family and friends will always remember his love for gardening, for flying radio control model airplanes, jazz music, accompanied by his clarinet, or tenor saxophone, and telling them his memories from time spent in Germany during WWII. He was greatly admired and loved by all of his grandchildren!
