Gay was born on March 23, 1936 in Bemis to the late Grady and Lona Maness Eason. She was a graduate of the Class of 1954 of J.B. Young High School. She also played basketball during her time at J.B. Young High School. She furthered her education, earning a Bachelor’s degree from Lambuth College and a Master’s Degree from Ole Miss. She taught third grade in the Jackson Madison County School System for over 33 years. Most of her tenure was spent at J.B. Young Elementary School and South Elementary School where she left a wonderful, enduring legacy of shaping the lives of her students.
She loved creating beautiful pieces of ceramic artwork, taking classes at Bemis Ceramics. She enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles, and jigsaw puzzles. Gay loved her family and many friends. She loved being at home with her family, and going on family trips. She will always be remembered as a sweet, loving, gentle soul who lived a wonderful life that is precious in the sight of God.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Albert Mulherin; and her two siblings, Thelma Joyce Eason and Thomas Eason.
She is survived by her two children, Holly Mulherin Farrow (David) of Champaign, IL and James Jason Mulherin of Jackson; sister-in-law, JoAnn Eason; and neices and nephews, Jane Elizabeth Eason, Jennifer Eason, Melanie Eason, Andrew Eason, and Amanda Eason.
Graveside services for Gay will be held on Tuesday, December 6, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Highland Memorial Gardens. The service will be officiated by Rev. Travis Penney.
