Funeral services for Emily Stubbs Freeman, age 77 of Jackson will be held at 3 p.m. on Sunday. She passed away on January 29, at Jackson General Hospital. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. at The First United Methodist Church with Dan Camp and Jeff Rudy officiating, a reception will follow in Clayton Hall after the service.
Emily was born on August 15,1938 in Louisville, Ky to the late John Stubbs and Anita (Nena) Stubbs.
Emily was raised in Hickman,Ky and graduated from Fulton County High School in 1956. She was salutatorian of her graduating class. She attended Lambuth College and graduated with a BS degree in Education on June 1, 1960. She was also a member of the Omega Omicron Chapter of Alpha Omicron Pi while at Lambuth. On June 4,1960 she married James (Jim ) Freeman.
In March 1961, she gave birth to twins LeeAnn and Syd, and in August, 1963 had another son John.
She was a 5th grade school teacher at Old Hickory Academy for 16 years, retiring in 1986.
She was an avid bridge player and teacher, a member of PEO Sisterhood Chapter Y. She also enjoyed her sewing and knitting clubs and garden club. Emily has been a member of First United Methodist Church since 1961.
Emily is survived by her husband of 55 years James F. (Jim ) Freeman, her children, LeeAnn Franks (Randy), Syd Freeman (Donna) all of Jackson and John Freeman (Monica) from Knoxville, TN. Her grandchildren, Jessica Franks Farley (Christopher), Jeremy Franks, Chance Freeman, John Thomas Freeman all of Jackson, Tyler, Sam and Drew Freeman of Knoxville. She has 2 great grandchildren, Calli Suzanne Freeman and Aubrey Kathleen Freeman.
