Funeral services for Edward Smith Bartlett, age 88, will be Friday, November 8, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the North Chapel of George A. Smith and Sons Funeral Home with Bro. Edgar Pierce officiating. Visitation will start at 11 a.m. going until the funeral hour at 1 p.m.
Mr. Bartlett went to be with his Lord and Savior Monday, November 4, 2013. He died peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer.
He grew up in Alabama where he met and married Mary Jeanette Campbell. He worked for the GM&O and ICG Railroads in Alabama, Tennessee, and Kentucky until he retired in 1986. He was a member of the East Union Baptist Church.
He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Mary; two daughters, Donna Ragan (David) and Linda Cross; two granddaughters Stephenie Cross and Michelle Campbell, and three great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents Otho and Eula Bartlett; siblings, Arvin Bartlett, Betty Seale, Raymond Bartlett, a “brother” in law Clyde Seale; nephew, Phil Bartlett; son in law Thomas Ray Cupples and grandson Thomas Edward Cupples.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Cly de Smith and staff, The Hospice of West Tennessee Staff and Special Caregivers, Pastor Edgar Pierce and church family and close friends for their love and support.
Edward will be buried in Highland Memorial Gardens following the funeral services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be directed to the East Union Baptist Church Debt Retirement Fund or Hospice of West Tennessee.
