Charles Polk Waynick

Visitation for Charles Polk Waynick will be held Sunday, September 18th at Forest Heights United Methodist Church from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, with services to follow at 7:00 PM. Burial will be at 11:00 AM on Monday, September 19th at Ridgecrest Cemetery.

Mr. Waynick was born in Jackson on November 18th, 1922, and passed away on September 15, 2016. The Madison County native was the son of the late Charles Pearl Waynick and Lilla Adele Goodrich Waynick, and was preceeded in death by two sisters, Ella Kathryn Woolfolk and Fan Lee Troeber.

After graduating from Spring Creek High School, Mr. Waynick worked for Western Electric before volunteering for service in World War II, joining the U.S. Navy Ninth Special Seabees Batallion and serving in the Solomon Islands.

On December 25th, 1946, he married Lena Barker Waynick, who preceeded him in death in 2007. He then began a full-time farming career on the farm established by his mother's family in the early 1800's in the Spring Creek community. He won the Commercial Appeal's Plant To Prosper Competetion in 1964, and was one of the founders of the 4-H Chicken Shack at the West Tennessee State Fair.

In 1968, Mr. Waynick began working at Frankland's Furniture, serving as general manager for over a decade. He was an active member of the Jackson Civitan and Brown's Church Ruritan Clubs. After retiring from Dabney's Furniture in 1984, he continued to hand-craft fine furniture in his cabinet shop for clients until age 91.

Mr. Waynick is survived by two sons, Steven (and Brenda) Waynick and Charles Waynick, and two daughters, Phyllis (and Frank) Seeley and Kathy (and Harry) Rymer, as well as seven grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be directed to Forest Heights United Methodist Church or a charity or organization of your choice.
