A memorial service for Cathrine Pedigo Petty will be held at 12:00 P.M. Tuesday July 1, 2014, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church in Jackson, Tennessee. Private interment will be in Center Hill Cemetery in Henderson County, Tennessee.
Mrs. Petty, 97, died on Sunday June 22, 2014 after a brief illness.
Mrs. Petty was born on October 23, 1916, in Salem, Virginia, the daughter of Benjamin Harrison and Christine Kuhlenkamp Pedigo. She was a lifelong resident of Jackson, Tennessee until moving to Rochester, Minnesota in 2005.
On October 3, 1941, she married Everett Petty at the Concordia Lutheran Church in Jackson. They raised two sons, John Pedigo Petty and George William Petty.
She graduated from Union University and Memphis State University. During a career in education that spanned six decades, she was a teacher and administrator in the public school systems of Jackson and Madison County.
Mr. and Mrs. Petty were classical music and opera enthusiasts, and were particularly active in the Jackson Symphony Association in its formative years. They were also avid gardeners and world travelers.
Mrs. Petty was preceded in death by her husband, her son John Petty, her granddaughter Ruth Catherine Petty, her brother Harry Pedigo, and her niece Lynn Pedigo.
Mrs. Petty’s survivors include her son, Dr. George Petty of Rochester, Minnesota; her grandchildren, Alice Petty and Winton Petty of Minneapolis and Rochester; her cousin Dr. Arnold Schroeter of Rochester; her nephews Ben Pedigo of Ripley, Ohio, and Dr. David Johnson of Jonesborough, Tennessee; her daughter-in-law Linda Anderson Petty of Kansas City, Missouri; her sister-in-law Frances Pounds Pedigo of Ripley, Ohio; her cousin Clemence Wadly McCain of Memphis, Tennessee, and her niece Claire Robison of Goleta, California.
Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, South Church Street, Jackson, Tennessee.
The family will receive friends in the gathering area of the church following the memorial service.
