Funeral services for Arthur “Smitty” Smith age 87 of Jackson, TN will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at George A. Smith and Sons North Chapel with Bro. Tim Bass officiating. He passed from this life on Tuesday, May 10, 2011 at his residence.
Mr. Smith was born on December 27, 1923, to the late Arthur and Elma Smith. He was a member of Bemis Baptist Church, a mason and served in the Navy during WWII stationed at Pearl Harbor. The most important thing to Smitty beside Coon Hunting in the Hatchie Bottom, was his family.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 69 years, Opal O’Neal Smith; his children, Cindy Knievel and husband Stan and Greg Smith and wife Teresa all of Jackson; a grandchild, Spencer Lee Nelson; and two sisters, Alene Worth and Irene Jordan both of MO.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Louie, Robert and Carl Smith.
The family will receive friends from 9:00 – 11:00 am on Thursday, May 12, 2011 at the North Chapel.
