Nitzi was the daughter of Col. Laurence Moffitt and Alice Ingram Moffitt. She married Bill Melton in 1949, and they made their home in Chester and Madison County, TN. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a brother-Larry Moffitt, a sister- Glenna Rodgers, a son-Billy Melton, granddaughter-Rose Melton, grandson-Christopher Wyatt, and great grandson-Mason Green.
She leaves behind her children James L. (Chuck) Melton and wife Martha, Lydia Smith and her husband David, Alice (Bitzi) Wyatt and husband Billy. Grandchildren include Jill Bland ( Trei ), Lauren Walden (Chad ), Taylor Smith (Kyndall ), Mary Wyatt, Holly Lyles (Brandon), Katie Bridger (Jacob), Travis Wyatt (Cody) and Nikol Haynes. She was also blessed with fourteen great-grandchildren: Riley Bland, Levi Silvers, Emmy Walden, Mae Walden, Mollie Walden, Jacob Kincaid, Bryan Kincaid, Kaleb Kincaid, Samantha Bridger, Carley Bridger, Gavin Green, Avery Green, Bryson Lyles, and Hadley Smith.
Nitzi was an accomplished seamstress and hairdresser by trade for many years. In her younger years, she was active in the DAR and American Legion. She had a beautiful voice and sang in the church choir at First Baptist Church in Henderson for many years. In later years, she sang with the Lady Barbershoppers Chorus in Jackson. She was a very talented artist and painted many oils and watercolor landscapes for her family to cherish. One of her final works was the mural in the basement at Jackson Madison County General Hospital as a volunteer. The artwork was inspired by cancer patients and the pictures they brought her to recreate into the mural.
A memorial will be held by her family at a later time.
