William "Bill" P. Sikes left us this morning Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at 8:30 am to be with the Lord. Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and on Thursday from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Funeral services be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel with interment to follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
Bill was born December 27, 1925 to W.P. (Percy) Sikes and Maydell Morrow of Neshoba County MS. He lived in the Waldo Community of Neshoba Co. and worked on the family farm until January 1944 when he left high school and joined the Army. After his induction at Camp Shelby MS, he went to Fort Riley KS and trained in artillery. After his training he was sent to France in August 1944 and traveled to Germany where he had made the rank of Staff Sergeant and was honorably discharged in late 1945.
After coming back to Neshoba Co he moved to Jackson where he attended Hinds Community College and studied refrigeration and appliance repair. In the early 50’s he started work with May and Jackson Co in Jackson as a repairman. In the early 60’s he and his wife, Elizabeth, began their own business, Sikes Appliance Repair. They ran this business for nearly 40 years with the only advertisement being word of mouth.
He was a member of Central Presbyterian Church also located in Jackson until its closing and then became a member of Briarwood Presbyterian Church also located in Jackson.
He is survived by 4 children, Betty (Marcus) McClamrock of Forsyth, MO, Barbara Marshall of Clinton, MS, Donnie (Debra) Sikes, Flowood, MS and Glenn (Faith) Sikes of Clinton, MS. He has 2 grandchildren, Nick (Kelly) and Adam (Kim) Sikes and step-granddaughter, Kari Hobbs; 2 great-great grandchildren, Carrington and Lilly Sikes; his sister, Flora Jones and brother, George Sikes.
