Affectionately known to many as “Ms Sarah” or “Mamaw”. She had many active rolls in her decades of life. She was a young mother of 4 children. As a family, they followed her husband around the country thru his Naval career of 22 years. Her roll of a military wife was taken to the “next level." As many times, for long periods of time, she was a single parent with a husband gone to War or Sea. She was an only child, so she assumed the role of Matriarch early in life, forming a strong bond within her family. She gave of herself unselfishly for child-rearing, but she was always waiting for her “Hero” to come home from the Sea. The adventures, tales, and travels would be too many to tell, but she has spend the rest of her life telling the “tales” to anyone who would listen. Once children were older, she started to transition to the workplace. She started in banking, followed by a retirement career with Bellsouth(AT&T).
She was a active member of several clubs and organizations over the years involving homemaking, gardening, or Christian outreach. She shared with husband of 58 years the loves of life for horses, motorcycles, guns, NRA, Church, and home remodeling. She was a real Southern Lady, great cook, and never met a stranger. She would work tirelessly to win your Soul to the Lord. She loved children, and taught Sunday School for many, many years. She was instrumental in having the children participate in the “live Nativity” in front of the church on Main Street at Christmas in Terry. They shared a longtime membership, & were Trustees of Wesleyan Community Church, and presently a member of Berea Baptist Church of Terry. She will be missed by many.
She loved her ‘ole church hymns, and loved to sing. Her favorite “quick jingle” to share was: Lord lay some Soul upon my heart~~~
And Love that Soul thru me~~~
And may I always do my part~~
To win that Soul for Thee!!!
She is preceded in death by both of her parents; her husband, Jan C Hylander; Children, Jan(Buz) Hylander Jr, David J Hylander, and Eula (Joy) Hylander.
Survivors include her daughter Joan(Jimmy)Estes; 6 grandchildren (Lee, De, Stacy, Dona, Nikki, & Harry), and numerous great-grandchildren. She was Blessed to have loving friends far and wide across the country (from military beginnings to her beloved community), and the Family sends Prayers for your comfort and understanding.
Special Thanks to the Hinds County Sheriff's Office, Hinds County Coroner's Office, and numerous departments of Law Enforcement.
The family requests, in lieu of flowers, please send contributions to her greatest passion of outreach ministries to: Berea Baptist Church & Missions, POB 787, Terry, MS 39170 (Please reference “Hylander”, and they will get it to the right place).
