Sachiko was born on March 31, 1949 in Ureshino, Japan to her father, Ryokichi and her mother, Akiyo. Graduating with honors, she attended college in Japan and furthered her education once she moved to the United States. She met her husband, John Quitman Morgan, Jr., (“Buddy”) while he was stationed in Hakata, Japan during the Vietnam War in 1966-1968. It was love at first sight – the moment he saw her he knew he was going to marry her. Their relationship bloomed while he was stationed there. In the summer of 1970, she left everything and everyone she knew to move with him to the United States to begin her life in a new country, with a new culture and a new language.
She and Buddy had twin sons, Nick and Rick, and she spent everyday pushing her sons to be the best they could be at everything they did. She taught her whole family about the importance of hard work and perseverance. Known for her giving nature, work ethic, and determination, she overcame many trials and challenges throughout her life. She exceeded at every opportunity she was given.
Sachiko is survived by her husband, John Quitman Morgan, Jr.; sons, Nick (Laura) and Rick (Jennifer); brothers, Ryouske Arakawa and Ryohei Arakawa; and her sister, Kiyomi Yoshitomi. “Gammie” is survived by granddaughters, MaCall, Anders, and Ellen, and grandsons, Mason, John Quitman III, and Rhodes. She is also survived by many extended family members and dear friends.
