Ruel Grant Moore, 95, died Monday, November 9, 2020, at his home. Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 on Thursday, November 12, 2020, at Lakewood Funeral Home in Jackson, MS. A memorial service will follow at 11:00 in the chapel with social distancing and masks required by the funeral home.
He was born December 22, 1924, to Bessie Purvis Moore and Carey Columbus Moore in Pelahatchie, MS. After attending Forest Hill High School, he served in the U. S. Navy during WWII, then lived and worked in Jackson, MS, until moving into his son’s home two years ago. He retired from the Department of Veteran’s Affairs in 1979, after a long career at the VA Hospital as a Surgical Technician, then as Chief of Sterile Supplies.
He was married to the late Mary Frances Bird Moore, and had one son and one daughter, two grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church where he actively served the Lord and loved people with a servant’s heart. In his older years his God-lead church ministry was calling church members on their birthdays. He made his last birthday call just over an hour before his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his brother, Violas Martin Moore, his sisters, Wilma Jewel Moore Marble, Ruby Nell Moore Williams, and Sybil Irene Moore Brown.
He is survived by his son and loving caregiver, James Charles Moore and wife Kathy of Pearl, his daughter, Jerry Nix Roberts and husband Don of Ridgeland, and his sister, Betty Jo Moore Spell and husband Charles of Jupiter, FL. Also, he is survived by his granddaughter, Mary Elisabeth Roberts Bowlin and husband Kendall of Batesville, MS, and his grandson, John Gabriel Roberts and wife Ashleigh of Nashville, TN, as well as seven great grandchildren: Mary Kennedy Bowlin, Charles Wilson Bowlin II, both of Batesville, MS; and Seeley Harb Roberts, Colette Carmen Roberts, Wade Gabriel Roberts, Helen Bird Roberts, and Rivers Alexander Roberts all of Nashville, TN.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the “Continue the Legacy” fund at Hillcrest Baptist Church, 5950 Terry Rd., Byram, MS 39272.
