Rose Edna Frucht Simmons, aged 93 of Clinton passed away August 19, 2014 at Comperes Nursing Home. She was born June 8, 1921 in New York, New York to Joseph and Edna Easton Frucht. She lived in New York until 1943 and then moved to San Francisco, CA. In 1944, she married her beloved husband, Archie Fritz Simmons. During their 53 years of marriage they lived in San Francisco, Grenada, and Pascagoula, and settled in Greenwood, MS in 1953. While in Greenwood, Mrs. Simmons was employed by Greenwood Public Schools as the Greenwood Jr. High secretary until 1967. She then worked for Leflore County Public Schools as secretary and then working with the migrant program until her retirement in 1982.
Upon retirement from education, she and her husband owned Simmons Nursery and Landscaping for 10 years. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church while in Greenwood and upon moving to Clinton, MS in 1998 became an active member of First Baptist Church of Clinton.
Over the years, Mrs. Simmons expressed her creativity in her paintings and stained glass. She also loved crocheting and knitting. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend.
She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings William Frucht, Joseph Frucht, Jr., Madeline Storm, Frances Lawler, and Jean Lodi. She is survived by her daughters Stacy Patterson and husband W.J. (Pat) and Penny Lindsey and her husband Curtis all of Clinton, one brother Tom Easton Frucht of Lincoln, CA; six grandchildren Dr. Steven J. Patterson (Cindy), Lauren Patterson Locke (Stephen), Dr. Scott Patterson (Sharla Gayle), Jason Patterson (Leigh Ann), Becca Lindsey Hodges (Tim), and Curt Lindsey (Jessi); ten great grandchildren Taylor, Reid, Hunter and Walker J. Patterson, Caroline, Sydney Grace, and Addison Locke, Allie and Emma Patterson and Dylan Patterson, and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family requests all memorials be made to First Baptist Church of Clinton or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
The funeral will be at Lakewood Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson, MS on Thursday, August 21, 2014 at 11:00 AM with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at Poplarville Cemetery in Poplarville, MS.
