Richard “Rick” A. Prem, age 67, of Jackson, Mississippi passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on April 27, 2023, due to bacteremia sepsis, severe and extensive aortic valve endocarditis and an inoperable dehiscence of his prosthetic valve.
Rick was born October 12, 1955, in Dothan, Alabama to Donald and Lorraine Prem and was the youngest of five siblings. Rick joined the Air Force where he honorably served for 21 years. Upon retirement from the Air Force, Rick worked at the United States Postal Service and after 20 years with USPS, Rick retired. Rick enjoyed going to NASCAR races with his son, Chris and brother, Jerry, where he was always rooting for Tony Stewart – and, of course, while in town for the NASCAR race, Rick and Jerry would always head to a sports bar and eat pub food and watch the big screen TVs to see if Rick’s Air Force football team or Jerry’s Army football team would win the game. Rick also enjoyed cruises and he sailed out on many cruises with his family and friends. Rick was an extremely well-liked man with a generous heart who loved God, his country, his family, and friends. This world was a better place with Rick in it and he will be missed.
A visitation for Rick will be held Monday, May 1, 2023, from Noon until 2:00 PM with services for Rick beginning at 2:00 PM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, Mississippi 39209.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Donald J. Prem and Lorraine (Neutzling) Prem He is survived by his son, Chris (Kim) Prem; granddaughter, Kryslin Prem; grandson, Jordan Prem; sister, Pam (Sammy)Deer; sister, Linda (Terry) Smith; sister, Diane (Terry) Tannehill; brother, Jerry (Marilyn) Prem.
