Peggy Caroline (Byrd) Snow passed away peacefully on May 31, 2023, surrounded by her children. She was born to Ethel and Riley Byrd on April 21, 1932, in Piave, MS. She had five sisters and two brothers and her family meant everything to her. During her childhood, she and her family moved to Waynesboro, MS, where she graduated high school.
She married the love of her life, Gene Clyde Snow, on October 31, 1954. Together, they lived in Greenville, MS, and then in Jackson, MS. While in Jackson, they chose to adopt two children and later settled in Vicksburg, MS where they planned to happily raise their family. Gene, however, suddenly passed away in 1972, leaving Peggy to rear their young children alone, a responsibility she did not take lightly.
Peggy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and was a devout Christian. As a follower of Christ, she displayed the characteristics of love and service, especially as a beloved teacher of the children at church. She taught them that each was a child of God and that they should always follow the “Golden Rule”. She was well known in her congregation and around town for her ability to step in and help those who were sick or in need. Many would also request that she make her chocolate cake and her Texas Delight for church functions or special occasions. Whether she was in church, out shopping, working in retail, or serving at the election polls, she never met a stranger and had an uncanny ability to talk to anyone about almost any topic.
She lived in Vicksburg for most of her life, but when her health began to decline, she eventually moved to Clinton, MS, and resided at the Woodlands Rehab and Nursing Center, to live closer to her children.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, as well as her granddaughter, Abbey Caroline Crawford, and six of her siblings; Mina Byrd McCoy, Emory Byrd, Louise Byrd Albritton, Mabel Byrd Cran, Patsy Byrd Hydell, and Paul Byrd.
She is survived by her children, Kimberly Snow Crawford (Victor), and Gene David Snow (Sissie); her grandchildren, Tanner Crawford (Tori), Joshua Crawford, Matthew Crawford, Adam Crawford, Sarah Crawford, Erika Dominguez (Moroni), and Selah Snow; her great-grandchildren, Isla Crawford, Mya Dominquez, and Esther Dominguez; and her sister Danielle Byrd Jones (Vic), as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
