
Oralee Graves Buie died on August 9, 2011, Mrs. Buie was born March 30, 1914 in Jackson, daughter of Charles Lee and Ora Tempie Graves. She attended Poindexter, Enochs, and Graduated from Central High School and Millsaps College. At Millsaps she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority and voted ‘Most Beautiful’ and Miss Millsaps in 1936. She taught history for several years in Benton and Catchins and then married her college sweet heart, Webster Millsaps Buie, Jr. in 1939. Upon leaving her husband’s ancestral home now known as the Millsaps Buie House, she, her husband and 3 children moved to Avondale in Hawthorne Hills.
The polio epidemic in 1952 “struck her down” but she “got back up” with the help of family and many loving friends. She was an active member of Galloway Memorial United Methodist Church, Circle 1, The 75 club, the Calliope Club, The Hawthorne Hills Garden Club, a founding member of the Monday Club and “The Bridge Club” for over 40 years.
Mrs. Buie was both an inspiration and “a piece of work” as attested to by family and many friends. She was a true listener with keen insight and a humorous retort. An avid bridge player she also loved to read and travel.
Mrs. Buie is predeceased by her parents and her husband and survived by children, Marjorie Buie Underwood, William, Webster Millsaps Buie III, Lise, Priscilla Tempie Buie Glass, Jack. Grandchildren, Samuel Everett Dixon III, Webster Buie Dixon, Joseph Charles Dixon, Laura, John Begg, Crosby Tempie Glass Pope, (Brad), Mindy Buie Glass. Great-grandchildren, Kathryn Glass Pope and Crawford Jackson Pope.
Visitation is Wednesday evening at Wright & Ferguson on High Street, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. and at Galloway UMC’s Parlor Thursday, 1:00 p.m. followed by Funeral service in Galloway UMC’s Sanctuary AT 2:00 pm
