On the 17th of January, 2022, Nettie Pearl Cargile Johns was called home to be with our Lord. Born May 15th, 1933, the only child of Gatha M. Cargile and Virgie Shelby Cargile, Nettie was adored and cared for from her first day to her last. Nettie graduated from Taylorsville High School and moved on to a career in the secretarial field. It was through her career that she was first introduced to her husband and life-long love, Davis Ray Johns, Sr. or D.R, as he was lovingly called. Nettie and D. R. started their married life in Jackson, MS, where they were active members of Calvary Baptist Church. It was here that they began their family, two sons, and one daughter, and in this church that they ensured that the teachings of Christ were shared with their children. Nettie and D. R. eventually settled their lives in Clinton, MS, continuing to grow and love as a family. Nettie was a fiercely devoted wife and mother, putting God and her family first in her life and instilling the same values in her children. She carried the same devotion and love of family into her role as grandmother and matriarch of her family, never missing a single one of her grandchildren’s school functions. Her children remember her as the kind of mother who always supported their dreams, who worked hard to make sure they never went without, and who always had dinner on the table for them, no matter what. Her grandchildren remember her as the kind of grandmother who was unfailingly there for them.
Nettie will be remembered and celebrated as the life and strength of her family. She was well-loved and will live forever in our hearts.
Nettie is reunited in glory with her husband, Davis R. Johns, Sr. and son, Davis R. Johns, Jr. She is survived by her son, Ruston M. Johns (Rachel); daughter, Carol M. Johns Reeves (Jon); grandson, Peyton Tubb (Jade), granddaughters, Taylor Rae Johns Wilson (Wesley), Shelby Catherine Johns Grey (Caleb), Kailey Reeves, Rose Kleckinger, Violet Kleckinger, great-granddaughter, Shaquera Kelly, and great-grandson, Barrett Grey.
Visitation will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home on Friday, January 21 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and on Saturday from 1:00 to 2:00 PM with the funeral service to follow in the chapel. Burial will be at Lakewood Memorial Park.
