Mary Joan Stewart

Mary Joan Stewart ,89, a retired missionary, died on November 28, 2023 in Clinton, MS. There will be a celebration of her life service on Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Clinton at 11 am with a visitation at 10 am. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.

Mary Jo was born and raised in Pearl River County. She graduated from Lumberton High School, the University of Southern Mississippi and the New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. She also earned a Master of Education degree from the University of Texas as El Paso.

Since 1999 she has been an Emeritus Missionary of the International Mission Board, SBC. She served a total of 24 years on three fields; Ecuador, the Baptist Spanish Publishing House and Kenya.

Prior to her appointment as a missionary she served as a WMU worker with four different state conventions: Louisiana, Georgia, Pacific Northwest and Arizona.

Since her retirement she has been a member of the First Baptist Church in Clinton where she has been active in the Ministry at the Clinton Healthcare Center, Women on Mission, etc.

Her first Love was for the Lord God making "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God" (Matthew 6:33) the motto of her life.

Her desire was that memorials be made to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering of the International Mission Board, SBC., P.O. Box 6767, Richmond, Virginia 23230.
