Lynn was born October 30, 1955, in Collins, Mississippi. She was the daughter of Mary Alice and Ray Scott Turnage. Lynn was a graduate of Collins High School. After graduating high school, she moved to Clinton, Mississippi, and began working at Packard Electric, where she worked for the next twenty-eight years until her retirement. Lynn married Derris Powell on Valentine’s Day 1986. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton. Lynn enjoyed traveling with her husband to Ole Miss football games where she could often be found tailgating in their tent in the Grove. She also enjoyed outings with her numerous friends in the Outback “Cheers” Group. Lynn loved spending time with her large family and with her
grandchildren, she especially enjoyed hosting the family’s Christmas get-togethers in her beloved home. Lynn will always be remembered for her kindheartedness, hard work, and willingness to help those in need.
Lynn is survived by her loving and devoted husband of thirty-six years Derris Powell; sons Jeremy Smith (partner Alexis Keith Stewart), Justin Powell (fiancée, Amanda Perez), and Jarrod Powell (wife, Ashley); and sisters Rachel Guillory (and her husband, Chris) and Clara Faye Hutchison (partner Butch). Lynn was proud to be blessed with 6 beautiful grandchildren who survive her: Ethan and Julia Powell, Raka and Rafa Smith, Aubrey and Carson Powell; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents Ray Scott and Mary Alice, as well as brothers Danny, Dave, and Sammy.
Friends and family are invited to attend a visitation on September 1, 2022, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with funeral service and interment to follow at Lakewood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 6011 Clinton Boulevard, Jackson, Mississippi.
The family is honored to announce pallbearers: Scott Turnage, Corey Turnage, Daniel Turnage, Eric Turnage, Lynn Ezell, and Walter Griffin. As well as honorary pallbearers: Keith Turnage and the Outback “Cheers” Group.
In lieu of flowers the family would ask that any donations be made to Friends of Alcoholics or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital
