Mr. John Patrick “Johnny” Gallagher, Jr., 69, died in the early morning of Friday, February 1, 2019 in Terry, Mississippi, at home with his family. Johnny was born in Jackson, Mississippi, March 7, 1949, to Doris and Jack Gallagher. He graduated from Provine High School in Jackson, Mississippi, where he was a prized member of the golf team, lettering in the sport and serving as Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Golf Club.
Via the selective service, Johnny served in the United States Army, earning a National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Marksman Badge, and Expert Marksman Badge. He was honorably discharged in March 1972.
Johnny worked for Mississippi Federated Cooperatives (“MFC”) and then Dekalb Genetics Corporation in agricultural sales. Later, he worked for both the Gray Daniels Ford and Mac Haik families in both car and fleet sales. He was beloved by coworkers and customers alike for his sense of humor. He was also known for possessing a prized ability to kill an insect from 20 feet with a rubber band, keeping his coworkers and family safe from pests that surely meant them harm. Johnny was an avid outdoorsman, hunter and golfer for nearly all of his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Doris Gallagher.
His infectious, memorable laugh will be missed by all, especially his family, who include his wife of 43 years, Susan Robertson Gallagher of Terry, Mississippi; brother, James Edward “Jimmy” Gallagher and Liz Caminita of Amite, Louisiana; a daughter, Carly Gallagher Murray and son-in-law, Scott Murray, of Austin, Texas; a son, Brennan Patrick Gallagher, of Denver, Colorado; and 2 grandsons, Mac Gallagher Murray and Gus Durham Murray, both of Austin, Texas.
The family sincerely thanks StaHome Home Health and Hospice for their guidance, compassion, and care for Johnny and the family.
Flowers are appreciated, but if guests prefer, the family also appreciates donations in lieu of flowers made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital (www.stjude.org).
