Jerry Gaskins Robinson, 85, passed away peacefully in her home on June 13th, 2024 with her two daughters by her side. Jerry was born and raised in Decatur, Georgia. She attended Decatur High School where she was a member of Pi Sigma Delta Sorority. She continued her education at Georgia State College in Atlanta, Georgia where she would go on to meet and marry her husband Robert Dent Robinson of Jackson, Mississippi. They would soon move to Jackson, Mississippi where they settled down and started a family with two daughters, Kathy & Stacy Robinson. After raising her daughters, Jerry went on to return to the classroom and receive her degree in Philosophy from Millsaps College in 1993. During Mr. and Mrs. R D Robinson’s 47 year marriage, they maintained an avid traveling lifestyle. Their preferred method of travel included embarking on many Princess Cruises where they enjoyed immersing themselves in the culture of their travels. Professionally, Jerry was on the Board of Directors for Tri-State Brick & Tile Co, the family owned business. Additionally, she was an active member of the Women’s Recess Club of Jackson where she had a passion for community service work. In her later years, she enjoyed pilates, yoga, and swimming in addition to day-time television programming and the NCAA March Madness Tournament. She was known for her love of animals, especially her beloved dog “Tilly”.
Jerry was known by her grandchildren and great grandchildren as “Mimi”, and will always be remembered for her famous monkey bread that she prepared for family to enjoy throughout the holiday season.
She is preceded in death by her husband Robert Dent Robinson, and son-in-law Mike Waren as well as her three siblings.
Jerry is survived by her daughters Kathy Robinson (Waren) and Stacy Robinson (Sullivan), her grandchildren Kathryn Rose Waren Turner (Nick), Robert Lamar Waren, Dr. John Magruder Sullivan III (Tara), Caitlyn Caruthers Sullivan Olmer (Lana) and Sarah Elizabeth Sullivan, and great-grandchildren Riley Nicholas Turner, Kennedy Ann Turner, Emerson Rose Turner, Wilma Scarlett Sullivan, Mamie Lou Sullivan, and Kamila Suzana Olmer.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, June 20, 2024 at Lakewood Funeral Home on Clinton Boulevard. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cara or any no-kill animal shelter of your choice.
