Janice Lillian Williams Mitchell passed away on October 9, 2014 of cancer. Mrs. Mitchell was born on June 10, 1932 in Carbondale, Pennsylvania. She was a cheerleader at Ben Franklin High School in Carbondale where she met her husband, William S. Mitchell. The couple moved to Jackson, Mississippi in 1958.
Mrs. Mitchell was a full-time mother and homemaker until 1970, when she began working at Revco Drugs. She later worked at D. H. Holmes and Dillard’s Department Stores. Mrs. Mitchell had been a faithful member of Alta Woods Presbyterian Church since 1958 and Pearl Presbyterian Church. She was an active member of the Widow’s Club and the Baptist Healthplex. Her favorite times were those when her home was filled with all her children and their families. She was a loving matriarch and will be deeply missed by a host of relatives and friends.
Janice W. Mitchell was preceded in death by her husband, Bill. She is survived by her children, Mary Lou McBride (Harry), Billy W. Mitchell (Ruthie), Warner J. Mitchell (Becky); her brothers, John R. Williams, M. O. “Buzz” Williams and Gerald Williams; her sisters, Lois Cox and Claire Thomas; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Mitchell will be held Sunday, October 12, 2014 from 2:00-4:00 pm and Monday, October 13 from 10:00-11:00 am with services following in the chapel at Lakewood South Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Blair Batson Children’s Hospital, 2500 North State Street, Jackson, MS 39216.
