Janet Burch McAlpin passed to her eternal home in heaven on March 29, 2021. The family will receive visitors on Wed, March 31 from 5:00-7:00 and again on Thursday April 1 from 1:00 until the service at 2:00 pm at Raymond Road Baptist Church 4622 Raymond Road, Jackson, MS 39212.
Janet was born January 10, 1952, to Charles Robert and Mavis Carr Burch. “Jan” grew up in West Jackson and graduated from Provine High School in 1970. Soon after her future mother in law introduced her to the love of her life Mike McAlpin. Their first date was to a Valentine’s banquet at FBC Pearl. They were married 2 years later on April 8, 1972. Mike and Janet would have celebrated their 49th anniversary next week.
“Jan” worked as a full time Mom and wife. Later she served students in Clinton Public Schools as a teacher’s assistant and special needs bus driver before finishing her career in Jackson Public Schools. She then retired to pursue her passion and greatest joy being Mimi to Caleb, Jayden and Matthew.
She loved her family! She enjoyed spending time with them, family BBQ’s, game nights, and any celebration that brought family and friends together. She was strong in her faith and served most of her life at Midway Baptist Church from early childhood until its closing in 2015. She and Mike sought God’s direction as He led them to the faith family at Raymond Road Baptist Church, where they quickly grew to love the body of believers there.
Janet is preceded in death by her parents, her infant brother Charles Robert Burch, Jr., and her beloved sister Rebecca Ellen Burch. She is survived by her husband Gale Michael McAlpin, her son Josh McAlpin and his wife Laura, her daughter Ashley McAlpin Taylor and her husband Johnathan, her precious grandchildren, Caleb Daniel McAlpin, Matthew Isaac McAlpin and Jayden Mackenzie Taylor and her sister-in-law Theressia McAlpin.
Janet loved pretty flowers, but preferred that memorials be made to Raymond Road Baptist Church or The Baptist Children’s Village.
