James Robert Nabors, 87, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 2, 2011 at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Collins, MS. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home in Ridgeland with interment in Jessamine Cemetery. Visitation is 12 Noon until service time Friday at the funeral home.
Mr. Nabors was born November 9, 1924 in McCondy, MS to the late Clifton W. and Irene Harper Nabors. He was owner of Jackson Linoleum and Carpet until his retirement in 1990. Mr. Nabors was an avid golfer and was a longtime member of Live Oaks Golf Club. An Army Veteran of World War II and Korea, Mr. Nabors served in the 163rd Battalion Army Combat Engineers. He was also a member of the VFW, the Homebuilders Association, and was a member of McCondy Methodist Church.
Mr. Nabors was a loving husband to Eunice Nabors for 65 years since their marriage in March 1946. He was a proud father and grandfather who loved providing for his family and enjoyed large family get-togethers. Mr. Nabors was preceded in death by his parents, brother, C.W. Nabors, Jr.; and sister, Omeria Nabors Jones. He is survived by his wife, Eunice House Nabors of Ridgeland; sons, Don Nabors (Sandra) of Madison, Tom Nabors of Memphis, TN, and David Nabors (Deborah) of Brandon; sisters, Virginia Carter (Larry) of Van Vleet, Imogene Langford of Amory, and Eleanor Lenoir of Denham Springs, LA. Mr. Nabors is also survived by his grandchildren, Erin Nabors of Gulfport, Michael Timmer of Vicksburg, and Rob Buie of Clinton; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family has requested that memorials be made to Briarwood Drive Baptist Church, 245 Briarwood Drive, Jackson, MS 39206-3028, or to Blair E. Batson Children’s Hospital, 2500 North State Street (attn: Division of Public Affairs), Jackson, MS 39216
