James Deon Lane, 89, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle whose greatest pleasure was spending time with his family, died peacefully Thursday, May 9, 2024, at the VA Home, Jackson, MS.
Funeral services will be Saturday, May 18, 2024, at the Wildwood Baptist Church, 101 Auburn Drive, Clinton, MS 39056. The visitation will be from 12 noon to 1 p.m. with Celebration of Life Services from 1 -2 p.m. Burial will be in Lakewood Memorial Cemetery, 6000 Clinton Boulevard, Jackson, MS 39209.
James was born in 1935 as the sixth child of Ira Meeks and Bertha Lane in Rosebloom, MS.
Upon graduation from high school, he entered the U.S. Army and served in the 82nd Airborne Division (paratroopers), Fort Bragg, North Carolina. One of his most memorable tours of duty was Japan.
After serving in the military, he came back to the United States to begin a most rewarding career in sales later advancing to Vice President of MS Stationery Company. His love for people and his knowledge that you first had to build relationships to be successful in sales contributed to his life-long success.
He was a man who placed his Lord first, his family second, his friends third, and his work fourth. His ministry in Gideons International was one of his most treasured accomplishments having served as treasurer of the Clinton Camp. The Gideons ministry team placed Bibles in the VA Home, where he would spend his last five years.
James is survived by his wife, Joyce Lane, and preceded in death by his wife, Lora Ann Egger Lane, his four children Ronald Dean Lane (Christy), Daryl Lane, Lynn Howard Frye (Brenda), Marvin Lane (Karla) and one stepdaughter, Laura Polk (Tommy). Grandchildren are Chelsea Dean Torrence, Caleb Evans, Karlie Evans, Nicholas Lane (Kelley), Marlee Lane Flood (Mike), and Josh Polk. Great-grandchildren are Ian Torrence, Colten Moore, Jack Raymond Lane, Emerson Lane and
Nellie Ryan Flood (Due June 7, 2024). Brothers and sisters who have predeceased him are Claudine Mitchell (Howard), George “GW” Lane (Jean-surviving spouse), Pauline Mitchell (Arnold),
Ira Meeks Lane Jr. (Janice), and John Kinnon “JK” Lane (Rachel). He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great nieces and nephews.
