A visitation for Jimmy will be held Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209 and on Friday, April 19, 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM. A funeral service will occur Friday, April 19, 2024 at 2:00 PM. Jimmy will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd., Jackson, Mississippi 39209.
Jimmy was born in Jackson, MS to the late David B. Carman and Mattie Lois Middleton Carman. He worked at the Clarion Ledger from 1969 to 1997 first as a staff photographer then held several positions in production. After retirement his favorite fun job was at the gun counter at Academy Sports where he became a supervisor.
Jimmy was a member of Brandon Presbyterian Church. He had a great love for the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He instilled a love for the outdoors in his own children and many others. He also enjoyed woodworking, photography, and baseball.
His favorite place to be was "Jacks Slough Hunting Club" (aka “Black River Camp”) where he was a member for 41 years. He volunteered at the Wildlife Extravaganza for several years working at the Big Buck Contest display booth. Jimmy loved his country and most of all his family and spending time with his granddaughter.
Jimmy is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Ellen Carman Jacobson. He is survived by his wife, Lois Ann Byrd Carman, of 58 years; son, Larry Carman (Nina); step grandson Alex Clark; daughter, Cathy Costello (Joseph); granddaughter, Sarah Costello and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to Brandon Presbyterian Church.
