Born July 14, 1922, in Raymond, Mississippi, passed away at home at the age of 94, on February 10, 2017. He enjoyed a very full, fulfilled life of travel, sports, military and law enforcement service. Giles graduated Raymond High School in 1940 and served during World War II in the Pacific as a Platoon Sargent with the 31st Division (Dixie Division). Giles returned to the United States, attended Hinds Jr. College and graduated from Mississippi College in 1950 with a B.S. Degree in Business Administration. He returned to active duty to serve as an Artillery Forward Observer in Korea with the 45th Division (Thunderbirds Oklahoma National Guard). He continued to serve in the Army National Guard for many years. He achieved Full Bird Colonel status and was rewarded upon retirement with a Brigadier General star. Giles continued his public service for 22 years with the Mississippi Highway Patrol. He served as Commissioner of Public Safety and was the first Director of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Training Academy. After his retirement from public service, he joined Tri-State Brick Company in sales and retired after 15 years. In retirement, he worked part-time at Orvis Fireside Fly & Field where he enjoyed sharing his favorite pastimes of hunting and fishing. Giles was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Mary Connell Crisler, his daughter, Marion Crisler Hildenbrand, his brother, Davis Crisler and his sister, Elizabeth Crisler Fugate. He is survived by his son, Giles W. Crisler, Jr. (Cris) and daughter-in-law, Elizabeth R. Crisler, his grandchildren, Evan and Ava Hildenbrand, and his sister, Polly Crisler Shanks. Funeral service will be held at 11am Wednesday, February 15, 2017, with visitation at 10am, at Lakewood Funeral Home on Clinton Blvd., Jackson. Visitation will be 5pm-8pm Tuesday, February 14, 2017, at Lakewood Funeral Home with interment to follow in Lakewood Memorial Park. Memorials may be made to Edwards Presbyterian Church: P.O.
