George Roberts was my Dad. He was the best of the best.
 
One of his earliest stories were when his family all loaded into a wagon when he was about 8 years old and went to see a light bulb and electricity. Somehow with 8 brothers he ended up getting his right eye put out when he was young. He had to shoot left handed and couldn’t pursue one of his dreams of being a pilot.  

George served in the Air Force which took him to Alaska for one of the most exciting journeys of his life. He flew out to many remote villages on planes with snow skis and pontoons. His memories of Alaska lasted a lifetime. He used to show a big slide show of all his slides from Alaska. 

George followed his USAF service by enlisting in the Mississippi National Guard. He retired from the Guard. He loved his active duty in Camp Shelby. I understand he kept the Generals in line and stocked with their favorite stuff.

George was very active in the Masons and earlier on in the Shriners. He was active at the Masonic Lodge until recently. He had over 50 years of dedicated service.

George was the Air Conditioner man. He even taught HVAC at Hinds Jr College back in the day. He had licenses in HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing at various times. He mostly worked at the McRae’s Department Stores locations traveling the Southeast with his good friend Johnny.  

He was married to his lovely wife, Sondra, for 53 years. They attended the First Baptist Church of Raymond most of that time. Sunday school there will never be the same. 

I do want to clarify that George had no Grandson named Clay. That should have been Casey.

George was one of my favorite people on this planet.  He was that guy that would give you the shirt off of his back.  I can't count the number of times that he helped me with some plumbing, electrical, or gas project that I had going.  In turn, I would help him with his computer issues.  It was never a burden for either of us.  It was just family helping family.  We will miss you George and will be praying for you Sondra.  Love and miss you both.

I always looked forward to visiting with George at our Forest Hill class reunions when he came with Sondra.   He will be greatly missed.  He held a special place for me because of his kindness and attention to my mom.  My deepest sympathy to Sondra and his family.

The best friend a fellow could ever hope for. He was always ready with his witty comebacks to let you know how much you didn't know. I will miss you Pop !!

George and I shared many experiences together at work and also
serving together in the Army National Guard where I first knew him.
He will be missed  beyond  measure.

George and I worked together at the MS Army National Guard in the 80’s.   He was so funny.  I looked forward to seeing him each month.  He was a really good man and will be missed.

George was such a treasure to our family.  Know he is in heaven visiting with Henry and Wanda Riser.  Am sure there is some laughter.

I used to sneak around and try to stay near the grownups at Mamaw Roberts’ house so I could hear all of the boys tell stories about growing up.  Boy, did they have some!  Mamaw had no idea what those boys were up to half the time😘🤣. Uncle George, and all of the brothers , were full of fun and mischief.
