January 22, 1931 - October 25, 2022
Eva was called home to be with Jesus on October 25, 2022. Born in Utica, MS to Ernest Noel and Allie Mae Martin. Eva graduated high school at the age of 16 and moved to Jackson to start her career. At 18 she married James Wilks Brown and gave birth to two children. Her career was placed on hold to become actively involved in the activities of her children as a stay-at-home Mom. As the children grew older, she returned to work in the hospitality industry. Known as a hard worker and willing to take on any challenge, Eva thrived in the hospitality and food catering business. Her final work years were spent at Dennery’s restaurant where she made many lifelong friends and business associates.
After the passing of her first husband, Wilks, Eva married Sam Augustine and started the next chapter of her life traveling and hybridizing daylilies. An entire new circle of friends was made through Sam and his daylily friends.
Eva was raised in a Christian home and made sure to do the same with her children. She was well known for her “straighten up or you’re gonna get it when we get home” look that she glared from the choir loft at West Park United Methodist Church.
Despite many challenging health issues, Eva persevered them all and lived on to count her many blessings until the age of ninety-one. Eva is survived by her children J Wilkie Brown (Tammy) of Panama City Beach, FL, Beth Burgess (John) of Brandon, grandchildren Laura, Aaron, Kim, Eric and Will. Her greatest blessings were her great grandchildren Bo and Lily Freeman and Lilly Eckhart. She is also survived by one brother, Allen Martin and brother-in-law, Thomas E. Collins III.
The family wishes to express their tremendous appreciation to caregivers Annie, Janet and Vera for making this last year of her life the best it could possibly be. We are also grateful for the many happy years she had at Peach Tree Village.
Side note -
If you ever need a brutally honest opinion On how tight your pants are, your weight or your hair style, she was there for you.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, October 28 at St. Mark's United Methodist Church, 400 Grants Ferry Road Brandon MS, 39047, with a visitation 1 hour prior.
