Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday January 5, 2011 from the Clinton Chapel of Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home. Visitation will begin at 1:00 PM and interment will follow the service at 4:00 PM in Heuck’s Retreat Baptist Church Cemetery near Brookhaven.
Born March 15, 1921 in Brookhaven to Grover Cleveland and Carrie Mae Hoggatt Smith.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters: Dorothy Smith, Cecile Summers. Mary Lou Posey and Charlotte Bobby and Granddaughter Lacey Baker Smith.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clinton, member of the American Hemerocallis Society, and Garden Clubs of Mississippi.
Survivors include her devoted husband, Theron A. Crockett; Son, Lynn Gaskin and his wife Sheila; Daughter Patricia Baker Ray and husband, Larry; Grandchildren, Jennifer Dumas, Teddy Smith, Tony Gaskin, Angela
G. Nottingham, and John Neal Gaskin; Great-Grandchildren Kaitlyn, Jack and Ross Gaskin. Brenna Shivers, Jack, Lacey and James David Dumas.
Ministers will be Rev. Mitchell Hedgepeth and Rev. Charles Ray; Pallbearers will be Larry Ray, John Dale Dumas, Tony Gaskin, John Neal Gaskin, Teddy Smith and Jack Dumas.
Elsie loved her family and gardening. She and Theron hosted their yard on many Mississippi Daily Tours and she hybridized many of her own daylilies. One special daylily named Clinton Lacey Baker in memory of her granddaughter, Lucy Baker Smith. Elsie was beautiful Southern Lady and will be missed by her family and friends.
