Kathryn "Diane" Horn King, 88, passed away Tuesday July 19, 2011 at Mississippi Baptist Medical Center. She was born June 23, 1923, in Cohay Logging Camp in Simpson County to Grover C. and Etoile James Horn. Married to Oliver N. King in 1951 she became a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother.
She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church where she lovingly served as preschool Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. In honor of her devotion to preschoolers a memorial has been set up to aid Christian studies students at Mississippi College. She was a loyal volunteer at Baptist Medical Center cheerfully delivering mail to patients. She and her husband were honored as volunteers of the year at Baptist in 2007.
Survivors include her husband, Oliver N. King of Jackson, daughters Sylvia (Sam) Haver of Raymond, Peggy (Don) Whitmire of Scottsdale, AZ, son Doug (Ginny) King of Canton, grandsons Eric (Kathryn) Haver of Clinton, Brian Whitmire of Baton Rouge, Matthew Haver (Heather) of Biloxi, Paul Whitmire of Houston, TX, Adam Haver of Flowood, and Mark Whitmire of Starkville, brothers James Horn (Dorothy) of Vicksburg, Dr. Karl Horn (Ruth) of Moss Point, in-laws Ed and Falba Walker of Petal, Laverne Walker of Raymond, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Nothing brought her more joy than being surrounded by family.
Visitation will be Friday July 22, 2011 at Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home on High St. from 5-7pm and Saturday July 23, 2011 at 10am followed by a service in the chapel at 11:00am. Interment will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
