David Wayne Ragland, 53, lifelong Jackson resident, died in his sleep at home Friday, Aug. 22, 2014. David was born Nov. 12, 1960 in Jackson, MS to Rev. and Mrs. Calvin E. Ragland, Sr. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to hunt and fish. David's love for the Lord was expressed through his talent of music. David was gifted by his ability to sing and play the trumpet and Flugelhorn and had recently been conducting concerts for nursing homes in Jackson and the surrounding areas. He was a member of Southside Church of God, Jackson, MS. David is survived by two sons, John Calvin Ragland and Dylan Wayne Ragland; his mother, Pauline Hart Ragland; brothers, Calvin E. Ragland, Jr., Timothy Eugene Ragland, and Steven Mark Ragland; sisters Myrna Jeanette Graves and Debra Paulette Ragland and close friend Debra Williams Pace. David was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Calvin E. Ragland, Sr. and brother, James Arthur Ragland. The family will receive friends Monday, Aug. 25 from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and again Tuesday, Aug. 26 from 10 a.m. until the service at 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Interment will be in Lakewood Memorial Park.
